- Description
This is Carl Sandburg reciting an excerpt (or excerpts) from his remarkable free-verse poem.
From Wikipedia: "The 300 page work is thoroughly interspersed with references to American culture, phrases, and stories (such as the legend of Paul Bunyan). Published at the height of the Great Depression, the work lauds the perseverance of the American people in notably plain-spoken language. It was written over an eight-year period. It is Sandburg’s last major book of poetry."
The first impression is that the records were cut at too low a level, resulting in audible surface noise. But this is because at times Sandburg raises his voice—bellows actually (probably no compression was used). The overall effect is striking and expressive.
There are two small passing digs: on sides 2 and 3 respectively, which tic briefly in each case.
The discs only are offered; the album is unavailable.
