- Description
Despite being recorded and issued in 1928 when sales were generally good, this one seems to be Lillian Glinn's scarcest record, and it's one of her best, from her only New Orleans session. Has only been on eBay twice in 20 years. She's accompanied by Willie Tyson on piano and three great (and presumably from New Orleans) unknown musicians on cornet, tuba, and clarinet (the latter is only on "Where Have All the Black Men Gone"). "Shake it Down" plays well with a 3.3-mil stylus and has mild to moderate peak distortion toward the end, but still very enjoyable. The flip side plays better with a 2.8-mil stylus (recorded the next day, possibly with a different cutting stylus). Two faint 2" lam cracks and one small 2-groove dig on "Shake it Down," light scuffing and a few light scratches. MP3 available on request. This record is from the personal collection of radio personality and music historian Barret “Dr. Demento” Hansen, who is starting to downsize portions of his collection.
